LiveJournal's been sold off to a Russian company called SUP. The selling-off was pretty accurately guessed when the whole Strikethrough thing was going on.
Here's some info on what happened when SUP signed a contract to take on LJ's russian advertising and "livejournal.ru", which you might not have heard of if you didn't speak Russian.
Again, Ms rm asks some damn good questions.
There's a lot of fussing about a US-based company being owned by a Russian one, given how lawless Russia is and all the shenanigans (think, polonium) going on with the politics there. There's mention that the Russian-speakers living in Russia are pitching a fit and planning on leaving. Here's some interesting background on SUP.
